On 17 and 18 October 2024, our Partner Mr Lawrence Yeung attended the 136th Canton Fair in Guangzhou and provided Hong Kong legal consultation services to exhibitors at the Foreign Legal Services Counter.

Lawrence obtained the GBA lawyer qualification last year to practice law in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. 

In an interview with Greater Bay Area TV, Lawrence said that as Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao had developed increasingly close economic and trading connections, Hong Kong legal services were needed by many PRC companies, especially because Hong Kong lawyers had a better understanding of the common law system. Hong Kong legal services would be helpful to Mainland China companies in developing overseas business.

In an interview with Southern Finance, Lawrence also said that Hong Kong was a common law jurisdiction, whereas civil law system was practised in Mainland China. In developing business overseas or entering in contracts with foreign companies, many Mainland China companies needed legal advice on matters such as intellectual property rights, protection of corporate interests, and how to maximize protection in conducting business overseas.
