ONC Lawyers won a Court of Final Appeal (“CFA”) case for an appellant who was convicted at trial, unrepresented, of common assault by the lower courts. The appeal was unanimously allowed as the magistrate was found to have denied the appellant a fair trial by failing to assist him in the conduct of his defence, namely, to deal with discrepancies in the prosecution’s evidence. The appellant’s conviction was quashed.
