ONC Lawyers, in collaboration with our PRC joint venture partner, Tan Law, successfully led a five-day business delegation to Jakarta, Indonesia between 28 July and 1 August 2026. This initiative brought together investors and entrepreneurs from diverse sectors to explore tangible growth opportunities within ASEAN’s largest economy.

 

Navigating local institutional frameworks and cultivating genuine trust are essential for sustainable overseas expansion. During the trip, Mr Sherman Yan, Managing Partner of ONC Lawyers, along with a business delegation from Nanjing, had the distinct honour of being received by key government officials, including Indonesia's Minister of Trade, Mr Budi Santoso, and the Director of the Ministry of Investment (BKPM), Mr Cahyo Purnomo. These high-level dialogues provided the delegation with first-hand insights into Indonesia’s trade policies, investment climate, and long-term economic vision.

Beyond government dialogues, the delegation visited local organizations and enterprises, such as the Jiangsu Chamber of Commerce, to gain practical, on-the-ground market insights. These localized engagements allowed delegates to experience the nuanced realities of the Indonesian market firsthand. During their visit to the Chamber, President Guo Jiehong warmly received the group and, acting as a vital bridge for enterprises, shared observations regarding Indonesia’s business environment, industry opportunities, and the development of Chinese businesses.

To further leverage Hong Kong’s unique position in the region, the delegation engaged in fruitful discussions with the Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Jakarta and Mr Horasis, Representative of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). These exchanges highlighted how enterprises can utilize Hong Kong's robust professional services to facilitate their expansion into Southeast Asia.
