Our Consultant Mr Joshua Chu was interviewed by Ms Karry Lai of the International Financial Law Review (IFLR) for his comments on the regulation of stablecoins in Hong Kong in the article entitled “Hong Kong central bank sees path ahead to rein in stablecoins”, which was published on 24 January 2022.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has recently launched a consultation on regulation of stablecoins after seeing it’s increased proliferation. The proposed scope of regulated activities entails international stablecoin issuers to be brought under HKMA’s regulatory oversight and will require detailed strategy in order to operate in Hong Kong.
